Fresno County has reported more than $30 million in agricultural crime losses over a recent three-year period, spanning copper wire and irrigation infrastructure, tractors and utility vehicles, livestock, agricultural chemicals, and high-value crops. Tulare County detectives recovered roughly 185 pounds of suspected stolen copper wire and brass irrigation valves from a single traffic stop in July 2026.

Farms are being worked over by the same crews and for the same reasons that copper thieves keep hitting electrical substations: the metal is valuable, the sites are unattended, and nobody is watching in the moment.

What actually gets stolen from a working farm

Farm theft is not one crime, it is six or seven different ones with different targets and different response windows. Any camera plan that treats the property as a single perimeter will miss most of them.
