A Law Born from Tragedy
Alyssa's Law is a powerful piece of school safety legislation named after 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff, one of 17 lives lost in the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
After the tragedy, Alyssa's parents, Lori and Ilan Alhadeff, became tireless advocates for solutions that could reduce the time it takes for law enforcement to respond to life-threatening school emergencies. Their mission became clear: prevent delays, save lives.

Where It Started, and Where It's Going
Alyssa's Law was first passed in New Jersey in 2019, quickly gaining bipartisan support. Since then, momentum has grown:
As of 2025, eight states, New Jersey, Florida, New York, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Oklahoma, and most recently, Georgia, have enacted their versions of Alyssa's Law.
Legislation is currently pending in several other states, and discussions of a federal mandate are well underway.
