IntelliSee Awarded $500,000 in IEDA Innovation Acceleration Funding

AI platform identifies and alerts to threats to make the world safer

CORALVILLE, Iowa (February 22, 2023) – IntelliSee, a University of Iowa spinout, has been awarded $500,000 in financial assistance from the Iowa Economic Development Authority as part of Iowa’s Innovation Fund.

IntelliSee is an AI-powered risk mitigation platform that allows users to protect against day-to-day risks, like slip and falls, and potentially catastrophic threats, like active shooters. IntelliSee overlays with existing surveillance systems to actively monitor live camera feeds 24/7/365 to detect threats in real-time. Once a threat is detected, instant alerts provide users situational awareness and context needed to quickly act to prevent harm. IntelliSee’s AI currently detects drawn guns, slipping hazards, fallen persons, trespassing, loitering, vehicles and other risks with additional detections planned for future release.

IntelliSee will use the $500,000 in funding for product refinement and key personnel.

“Surveillance cameras are everywhere, including in our schools, hospitals, and other places we used to consider safe zones. Cameras are important, but most are used passively and as reactive tools only. They don’t prevent harm, they just record what happened”, said IntelliSee CEO Scott Keplinger. “We formed IntelliSee to help stop school shootings by turning surveillance cameras into proactive, preventative tools. We realized that our platform could also help hospitals, stores and other organizations protect against other risks that injure people and cost millions.”

The Innovation Fund stems from Iowa’s State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) program, which aims to invest $96 million into small businesses, startups, manufacturers, veteran-owned businesses, and more across the state.

Keplinger continued, “We have the audacity to believe that we can make the world safer. This mission drives us and is why we’ve put so much into building IntelliSee. From day one, the state of Iowa has been very supportive of our mission, and we’re thankful for the state’s continued support and confidence in us. This funding will help us protect more organizations and their people, in Iowa and throughout the country, while creating high-tech jobs here at home.”

IntelliSee launched its beta version in 2020, leveraging $100,000 from IEDA’s Demonstration Fund. IntelliSee was named the industry’s most innovative new product for 2022 by the National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA).

The platform is currently installed in K-12 school districts, community colleges, universities, hospitals, retail stores, and other organizations. It is sold through a growing distribution network of safety and security systems integrators.
